Twist Bread Recipe

Twist Bread Recipe

I love how pretty this twist bread looks and taste but more than that I love the fact that it's made with only 6 ingredients. It's the perfect bread recipe for kids that are picky eaters because kids are mostly influenced by how the food looks not by how the food taste. I love bread, well who doesn't? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and the truth is that it must be enjoyed.

I have been making bread for years but I always love it when I make braided bread ( twist bread) the bread is soft and tastes absolutely delicious, what more? It's made from regular bread ingredients.

Twisted bread is as much a pleasure to look at as it is to eat. Believe me your kids and entire family will enjoy eating this. This Challah bread is rich and sweet.

A perfect three-strand braided bread. Twist bread may sound complicated and difficult to make but believe me it's very easy to make. Isn't this the most pretty bread you have ever seen? I love how easy it was to twist this challah bread.

I wanted to have something different maybe something like my delicious stuffed dinner roll but only that this time I wanted something quicker, I did not have the time to start cooking the bread filling so I thought of just have a twisted bread and I wasn't disappointed.

Here is the truth though! I might have wanted something quicker but the reality is that I had to wait for this bread to rise, you know that it takes time for the bread to rise, you have to wait for the yeast to do it's trick.

When I was young mom used to buy twist bread a lot. She had a way of making us laugh and smile so she used to bring all sort of breads, from crocodile bread to elephant bread just to name a few. The bread were sweet and great to look at - and I always wondered how they while made anyway the point is that the fascination kid's have over food is what gives them the appetite.

INGREDIENTS AND SUBSTITUTES

Flour: I used bread flour for this twisted bread. Use either bread flour or all-purpose flour , the results are all going to be the same.

Milk: You can either use water or milk, I used milk because I wanted my bread to be  milky. Whether you'll use milk or water just make sure that it will be warm. When you use cold water or milk then your yeast will not activate and if you use hot water/milk then it will kill the yeast.

Butter: I always use butter in all my bread recipes unless otherwise, the butter gives the bread a wonderful flavour. If you don't have butter then use oil.

Sugar: What's bread without sugar? A sugarless bread.

Yeast: Instant dry yeast is what I always use and it always gives me great results.

Salt: Salt adds to the flavor.

HOW TO MAKE TWIST BREAD

Step 1

In a sauce pan, heat milk until you see bubbles form just around the edges. Remove from the heat. Stir in butter, yeast, sugar and salt, mix til butter melts and sugar and salt dissolves. Set aside until cool.

Step 2.

In the same mixing bowl, add flour and mix with a wooden spoon, add the remaining flour and continue mixing with a wooden spoon until the mixture begins to resemble a ball. Knead the dough for 10 minutes using your hands. You can knead the dough in a bowl or on a floured surface.

Step 3. Brush the inside of a separate bowl with oil then transfer your dough into the greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a dish towel and let the dough rest for one hour or until it doubles in size.

Step 4.

Divide the dough into two equal balls. Divide each ball into 3 pieces and roll.

Step 5.

Braid (twist) by pressing 3 pieces together and braid them as though you are braiding a girl's hair. Seal each end by pressing the pieces together then tuck under the loaf.

Step 6.

Brush the bread with egg wash and bake at 180° for 45 minutes.

NOTES

(1) Make sure to use non-expired yeast and that it is Instant Yeast. If you are going to use Dry Yeast then it has to be activated in warm water.

(2) When activating yeast, water should be warm and not hot. otherwise the dough won't rise.

*Add extra time to prep for the dough to rise*
